Hypnosis

Hypnosis is the name given to a state of consciousness which, although not yet completely understood, is believed to allow greater access to unconscious processes.  It is also known as 'trance'.   In trance a person is generally more relaxed physically, more open emotionally and more susceptible to suggestion than in a normal waking state and so the trance can be used to effect treatment.
Visualisation is basically an exercise in imagination, using the 'mind's eye' to create new mental pictures or change existing ones.  Its operation can be enhanced by an 'altered state of consciousness which shuts out distractions and removes inhibitions on the imaginative process.  Hypnosis can greatly enhance a person’s powers of visualisation and the therapeutic effectiveness of the technique.
Treatment consists of implanting therapeutic suggestions directly into the unaware level of consciousness and these suggestions exert a powerful influence.
When hypnotised you can talk and move freely although people often find that they do not wish to.
Hypnosis is not a therapy but it is a tool of the therapy
  *  Hypnosis is an excellent method of analgesia, even to the extent of facilitating minor surgery
Hypnosis has been shown to have an impact on both physical and psychological factors.

This is a most useful tool to help in a wide variety of problems ranging from anxiety, stress related disorders, phobias e.g. fear of needles, and pain control etc.

Through promoting a deep relaxed state, patients can be helped to address their problems and find their own coping strategies.

Self hypnosis can be taught thus obviating the need for prolonged treatment.

Reaching a deep state of relaxation through self hypnosis has been recorded in many parts of the world and although using hypnosis as a vehicle for a therapeutic intervention is a relatively new approach, there is firm evidence that it can be very effective.
“So great a power is there of the soul upon the body, that whichever way the soul imagines and dreams, thither does it lead the body” Agrippa 1510
Hypnosis is based upon such interaction between the mind and the body and is a useful tool for reaching that level of consciousness which exerts a powerful influence on the physical body, but which is not easily accessible by other means. It has long been known that, through its use, behavioural change can be effected and phobias eradicated.
